A PS3 DualShock 3 controller obtains its power from an internal 3.7 volt battery pack. When you plug your controller into a USB port on your console, the battery pack gets charged up. Once it is fully charged, you can simply unplug it and begin to use it. When you use the PS3 controller, the battery lifespan will gradually start to decrease. You want to be fully aware when the battery life is going to finish, since you dont want the controller to die on your when your in the middle of gaming. So you can check to see how much battery life is renaming on your PlayStation 3 controller. That way you have a good indication on the current battery level and when you should plug it in to charge it.
1) Switch on your PlayStation 3 console and the DualShock 3 controller.
2) Once the PS3 is landed on the XMB menu, press the Circle Shaped button in the middle of the controller. It is the type of button that has a Sony PS logo on it.
3) Look onscreen on your television. At the very top right hand corner, you will see a small battery level indicator that shows how much charge is left. It will have 3 charging levels in total. The third bar shows that the battery is fully charged. The second bar shows that it has almost half a charge left. The one bar shows that the battery is almost going to die and you should charge it soon.
